Robotics Club (more info)

The Weimar Hills Robotics Club meets as a before school activity.  The students design and build robots out of LEGO parts (including motors, sensors, and a computer control module) to learn basic mechanical engineering and computer programming.  In teams of two or three, the students start with basic robot vehicle designs and are challenged to extend and improve the designs.  The design challenges increase in complexity throughout the ten or so weeks that the club meets.

The Beginning Robotics Club, for students in grades 4-8 who have not taken the Beginning Club before, starts in September and continues until the Christmas break.

The Advanced Robotics Club, for students in grades 5-8 who have taken the Beginning Club, starts in February and continues through May.  Sign-ups for both clubs are announced in the school walkhome.

Robotics Team (more info)

The Weimar Hills Robotics Team meets after school to participate in the FIRST LEGO League (FLL), which is a worldwide science and technology competition that specializes in LEGO robotics.   The team works to design and build a robot that solves a complex series of challenges designed by the league, and also puts together a science research project of their choice.  The team then meets to compete with other teams in the northern California area.  There are over 300 FLL teams in the northern California area, and over 7,000 teams worldwide.

The Robotics Team starts in September, and a Spring Training is held starting in February.  The team has limited openings.  Interested students should start by attending the Beginning Robotics Club, then applying for the team Spring Training by contacting the coach.
